Watch Out For Muddy Puddles

Watch Out For Muddy PuddlesIt’s that time of year… every step fraught with muddy puddle danger. Park the car in the wrong spot… and suddenly you’re armpit deep in a boghole! And the kids seem to have a sixth sense for seeking out puddles, like little sludge-seeking missiles. No doubt thanks to a certain Pig who shall not be named (because if we say “her” name out aloud, then the whole household will erupt in wild snorting!). So admittedly I approached Watch Out For Muddy Puddles with some trepidation. Would the mere mention of puddles set off the silly snorts? Fear not. This book is sploshing with imagination and immediately whisks you off on lots of splishy splashy silliness; precocious pigs thankfully forgotten.

In Watch Out For Muddy Puddles we get to peek below the surface and discover underwater kings, angry pirates, crocs and best (and most unexpectedly of all) THE BIG BAD RUBBER DUCKY. (Even I might have involuntarily snorted at that bit). It’s a lot of fun, thanks to Ben Faulk’s bounding rhyme (he’s also known as Mr Bloom from CBeebies). And there’s no murkiness in sight thanks to Ben Cort’s distinctive and vibrant illustrative style (he also did Aliens Love Underpants). A great, simple read for the little ones when the sun doesn’t shine… on these cold, cold, wet days.
