By the Beaver Pool by Catherine Ward, Illustrated by Phoebe Roze

The day we moved house, my heart felt as heavy as my suitcase…

Change can be scary and upsetting. Moving from all you know and those you love can make you feel sad.

What would happen if you met new friends?

Or discovered animals you’d never seen before in their natural habitat? Would you feel a little better?

Learning to embrace a different life to the one you’re used to takes courage and belief. Beavers are the same. They create their home wherever there’s water, branches, logs and driftwood – whatever they can use to stop the water moving so they can build a safe space for their families. Just like humans.

Moving house, making new friends and leaving the hustle and bustle of city life to live on a farm is a huge change for anyone – human or animal!

What’s amazing is the world outside the city walls. Full of wildlife, flowers, animals and just as much love, if not more, as you would find anywhere else. The people you spend time with are what matters.

Catherine Ward has created empathetic joy in her children’s picture book ‘By the Beaver Pool’.

The soft, beautiful illustrations by Phoebe Roze adding to the life-affirming message within its pages.

A truly wonderful story of accepting change and embracing your new world, one day at a time.
