Show of hands please if you are fed up with gimmicky magazine with those darn annoying plastic toys that ALWAYS break, leading to tears & upset?! I know right?
Hence the reason I leapt on Storytime Magazine when it came through the door in a beautiful envelope (see it in the YouTube clip below), no plastic toy attached and … beautifully thick pages.
Storytime is a brand spanking new magazine focusing on fairy tales. You know the ones … Rapunzel, Jack & the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs. Classic tales, filled with memories.
The first half of the magazine focuses on the the stories themselves presented alongside beautiful illustrations, we found them perfect to delve into at bedtime.
Issue one includes an enticing extract from Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, a Greek myth … quite a range. Each is good length, I imagine if you subscribe to this magazine (new issue each month) you will soon amass a wonderful collection of classic, varied stories.
Now, we are kind of in love with the second half too – the Storytime Playbox. The very format of this reinforces to children that stories are something to delve into, to explore and have fun with.
The Playbox is 6 pages packed with various activities. Some involve readers drawing on the magazine itself, helping to develop that real sense of ownership. The Story Magic section is inspired, filled with fun expert tips & educational ideas I imagine a few Primary School teachers will be casting an eye over these. They are solid, worthwhile suggestions.
