Clancy & Millie and the Very Fine House

Clancy & Millie and the Very Fine HouseClancy & Millie and the Very Fine House from Libby Gleeson, features Freya Blackwood‘s gorgeous pencil illustrations.

Shortlisted by the CBCA in 2010, then presented with the honour award, this picture book tackles the unsettling prospect of moving house through a child’s eyes.

Clancy is taken from room to room of the new house, and while mum and dad see it as so much bigger and better – Clancy can’t help but make comparisons to the familiarity and comfort of his old house. The discovery of the lovely, empty boxes in the backyard together with a new friend, Millie, leads to beautifully illustrated game of Three Little Pigs and the discovery of a new friendship.

This is an entertaining yet thoughtful story which will easily cope with many repeated readings!
