This Is Not A Bedtime Story is brilliantly clever picture book from Sophie begs her dad for just one more bedtime story, and like most parents … he can’t resist delving in to just one more, ‘a SHORT one.’
As Dad begins to read the one with a cute fluffy kitten, Sophie knows she’s heard it all before … and decides to make it a little more exciting. Well, who wouldn’t want to invite a lion to a gentle picnic, with light-sabres … and a giant robot dinosaur?!
A rollicking great action packed adventure ensues which leaves Dad quite exhausted as he slumps in to his chair after the bedtime story has concluded.
Mabbitt shows that not all little girls love pink and fluffy kittens, and that Dads read great bedtime stories too. His lively narrative is brought to life by Fred Blunt’s humorous illustrations. His depiction of that robot dinosaur, and poor Dad’s various reactions are quite brilliant.
This Is Not A Bedtime Story will actually make a very enjoyable bedtime story. Top marks Mabbitt and Blunt!
