My New Room is the latest picture book from Lisa Stickley (Handstand).
Little Edith, who will obviously be bigger next year, moved… last Wednesday. Thankfully all her toys came with her. Each of her toys has a special new place, in Edith’s special new bedroom. But where?
Little ones will enjoy the voice Stickley gives to every toy. Each page is dedicated to a different toy, with a brilliant collection of names. From Osbert T Octopus, Mr Rabbit and Major Ted they all proceed to tell us where they are, and most importantly… why. Each of them has a very important role. From Albert’s position at the bottom of Edith’s bed he is most thankful for her nightly bath… he doesn’t do stinky feet!
The message is one of reassurance – the toys are in their place. They are familiar and comforting, even if the new bedroom is not.
Stickley really does collage SO well. The attention to detail, with so much for you to pore over, tells the story wonderfully as it brings the characters to life.
My New Room is reassuring and fun, perfect for those moving house.
