Edie is the wonderfully fun picture book from author/illustrator Sophy Henn.
‘Hello! My name is Edie. I am EVER so helpful.’
No really, she is… honest!
This is a giggle inducing picture book about the most endearing character, Edie – who is keen as mustard to help absolutely everyone in her family. She helps her mum and dad wake up in the morning, even when they find it tricky. It seems a nice guitar solo at the side of the bed helps with that problem! She’s brilliant at getting herself dressed (honest!) and even more helpful at the supermarket… where she puts LOTS of things into the trolley. LOTS.
Sleepy grandma and grandpa wake up to discover they’ve had very helpful makeovers whilst they were snoozing, and what Edie does to Dad’s shoes is, urm, helpful?
Edie’s character shines through on every single page, even when she realises,
‘Sometimes I have to remember NOT to be quite so helpful.’
Those familiar with Sophy Henn’s illustrative style will not be disappointed by her gorgeous use of colour – the palette for Edie is wonderfully effective, evoking a ‘sink into’ quality with an almost retro vibe. Her ability to capture her characters’ personality and expression with seemingly minute detail is quite inspiring.
