The Invincibles: The Piglet Pickle is a gorgeous new chapter book, just perfect for emerging readers. The team of Caryl Hart and Sarah Warburton have created a humorous tale based around the antics of best friends Nell and Freddie.
You know that any book that starts with the words ‘It wasn’t really my fault’ is going to be fun, and The Invincibles: The Piglet Pickle certainly delivers on that count. We’ve all been there …. or at least been momentarily tempted during a trip to the zoo / farm. Fortunately for most of us the temptation to pick up a bundle of cuteness from the farm park is just a fleeting whim. Not so for Freddie who decides to snaffle a cute piglet during a school trip to the farm. Ooops. He tucks him into his bag, and brings him back to Nell’s house.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, apart from deciding to name the piglet … Kevin, plenty. Cue a rather interesting bubble bath, a dash across town, a tackle with a sneaky thief and a brilliantly funny chase that would give Wacky Races a run for its money.
Written from Nell’s point of view The Invincibles: The Piglet Pickle is a great tale, full of gentle twists and attention grabbing moments. Sarah Warburton’s illustrations are equally lively adding to the madcap adventure that Nell and Freddie find themselves caught up in. Together they make a great duo … the best news that another adventure is round the corner.
