The Nut Stayed Shut

The Nut Stayed ShutThe Nut Stayed Shut, from Mike Henson, is a fabulously funny story about determination, great onomatopoeia… and those really annoying nuts that simply WON’T open.

Frustrating? Oh yes!

But doubly frustrating for Rodney, because ‘of all the nut crackers in the world, Rodney is the best.’ There’s one little nut that eludes his talents. No matter what.

Determined Rodney tries all manner of wonderfully imaginative techniques, which tend to elicit lovely giggles from little listeners. From a tickle, an elephant and even rhinoceros poo Rodney certainly thinks outside the box.

The narrative travels at a comfortable pace as Rodney puts his skills to the test. Henson’s illustrations are wonderfully vibrant and full of energy. Lots of montage filled pages which are fun to trace, as is the little owl who pops up too.

The ending certainly elicits a smile or two… just remember to pause for a moment to let the penny drop.

Mike Henson’s The Nut Stayed Shut is heaps of fun.
