The Day the Crayons Quit

The Day the Crayons QuitThe Day the Crayons Quit is a picture book full to the brim of the humour that I LOVE discovering in children’s books.

Oh, and Drew Daywalt’s fab humour is accompanied by Oliver Jeffers illustrations – yep, this is a treat!

The red crayon. Over used? Over it! He quits!!

… this is how Duncan’s day starts. A collection of letters from some very frustrated crayons. The red leads the way complaining that he never gets a break a holidays – red hearts for Valentine’s Day, red for Santa’s suit …

‘I NEED A REST!’

Purple is fed up of going over the lines, whereas beige is having a bit of an identity crisis,

‘I’m tired of being called ‘light brown’ or ‘Dark tan’ because I’m neither. I am BEIGE and I’m proud.’

Yellow and orange are no longer speaking to each other .. something to do with who should be the colour of the sun! Cue two hilarious letters from each of them.

And next time you feel tempted to peel off the crayon wrapper (why is that so tempting?!), you may wish to remember the words of Peach.

Well, as you can see all these crayons do have very strong points. Each letter is wonderfully written, filled with humour and personality – who knew crayons had such strong feelings?!

The Day the Crayons Quit is a wonderful way of showing how much fun letter writing can be, how much fun you can have with crayons (Oliver Jeffers’ illustrations are fab for this) …plus a superb celebration of imagination and fun.

A perfectly entertaining picture book
