The Last Chip

The Last Chip

The Last Chip is the story of Percy, a very hungry pigeon, who isn’t having a very good day. Each time he tries to get a scrap of food, there is an obstacle. Will poor Percy ever find some food?

Straight away, Duncan Beedie (The Bear Who Stared) makes you feel for the little pigeon in the story, and you are told ‘Life on the streets was tough’ for Percy. You are desperately wanting him to find some food.

Duncan Beedie has set the story in Bristol, his home town, so look out for familiar landmarks if you know the city. The illustrations are full of detail and action, and sure to keep little ones entertained. He is fantastic at creating some really dastardly characters. I really loved the nasty giant pirate seagull in the story. When reading this to my daughter, I loved trying my best (and failing!) at sounding like a vicious pirate.
Without giving it away, the ending is so heartfelt and prompted a lot of discussion with my daughter. You come away from this story thinking deeply about issues regarding hunger.

The Last Chip is in support of ‘The Trussel Trust’. 10% of the profits from the book will go towards the trust, which supports a network of foodbank across the UK.
